Due to the fact that the winter months are very quiet, interns are mostly required between the months of September to April, but depending on the season and bookings, other periods could also be considered. The Hotel offers internships in several departments to Hotel Students, such as Front Office, Management, Food and Beverage etc, and they regularly have exchanges with international students from various other countries. This hotel is one of the best known in Cape Town and consequently demands a very high standard from their students. The atmosphere is very dynamic and this internship will certainly gain you very good experience in the Hospitality Industry.

The Hotel was established in 1714 on eleven acres and has played an important part in the history of the Cape. The premises are very well built, and contiguous to them is a pretty garden, and a considerable vineyard, which increases yearly in size”. The Hotel has a total of 34 bedrooms, from cosy Courtyard Rooms with charm and character to the luxurious Country House bedrooms and combines the classic comfort and spaciousness of yesteryear with bathrooms to dream of. The very popular restaurant provides meals to remember accompanied by fine Cape wines. There are three rooms to choose from, the gracious Agterkamer, the Heerenkamer where pictures reflect the Cape’s French connection, and the intimate Cullinan room ideal for private gatherings. Cosy pub lunches, and sundowners on the terrace can also be enjoyed in The Boer ‘n Brit in the Jonkershuis. The Hotel provides the chance for businesses to host conferences or functions, and the surroundings are ideal in terms of rivers, woods, mountains and the hotel inviting pool.
Professional Training
As an intern working in the Hotel, you will be working with part of the team of more than 50 staff members. You will be involved in all aspects of Hotel Management, including front office, food and beverage operational, Guest and Staff liaison and duty management. You will also be assisting with preparation for and staffing of events, and creating a variety of applications for business assistance.
Your analytical and reasoning skills will also come in handy with interpreting oral instructions, and selecting the most appropriate methodology and identifying additional or revised requirements. You will also be responsible for counting cash and recording amount received/deposited as well as preparing cash summaries. An internship with The Hotel is sure to be a very challenging and rewarding one, and the dynamic team will do their best to ensure that as far as possible, all your
needs and requirements are met.
