The public transport system in South Africa cannot be compared with that of first World countries. However, it can be rated as the best on the African continent. There are reliable and regular connections of buses, trains and flights in and between all the major cities of South Africa. South Africa has no trams and subways, in their place it has the so so-called "mini-buses” and" Rikkis” which are very popular and a great way to get from A to B. Generally, the public transport in and around the city centers of Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Pretoria is good. Foreigners might need some time and patience to get used to the timetables and punctuality. After dark public transport should not be used.
