Visa South Africa
Students from the USA, Canada, the UK, The Netherlands, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and most Easter European countries should apply for an unpaid
internship visa in their home countries. Please always contact your relevant South African consulate for visa requirements as these are subject to change at short notice. You are likely to obtain a visa within two weeks, provided you submit all the necessary and correct documents. Please also enquire about the maximum duration for your internship visa as it varies according to your nationality. It is a good idea to arrive one week before your internship starts in order to get accustomed to your new environment in South Africa. In your visa application you should also indicate the duration of your total stay in South Africa, from the day you arrive until the day you depart. This visa will also allow you to explore and travel South Africa and neighboring countries so you should ask for a multiple entry visa. It is nearly impossible to receive a visa for a paid internship. A work permit will be required and the conditions are very complex, and therefore difficult to fulfill. For a normal unpaid internship visa the following documents are required by the South African Embassies:
- Proof of registration from your university.
- An invitation from the South African host company where you will be completing your internship.
- The visitors permit form B1 - 84.
- A declaration from your doctor to acknowledge your health Status and a completed radiological report.
- 2 passport photographs.
- A return ticket reservation or booking for the duration of your stay.
- A passport which is valid for at least 6 months after your intended stay with at least two blank pages for visa stamps.
- Proof of sufficient funds. This means at least 600 Euro per month in South Africa. Proof with a guarantee from your bank or a statement of your bank account.
- Travel medical insurance for South Africa. Your best bet to get this would be from a university or Travel Agency.
- Police clearance certificate if required, check with the relevant South African consulate 10. Prepaid, registered stamped return envelope.
