Visa Information

General Information

Interns will receive their visa at the passport control at the airport against production of below listed documents. You will get a visitors permit for 90 days which can be extended once for another 90 days. The maximum duration for an internship visa is 6 months. At a port of entry to South Africa you must ensure that the immigration officer endorses your passport so you are authorised to work on a visitor’s permit with your specific internship company. If a longer stay is planned you should arrange everything concerning your visa abroad with the local South African Embassy.
It is a good idea to arrive one week before the actual internship starts in order to get accustomed to the new country. In your visa application you should also indicate the duration of your overall stay in South Africa, from the day you arrive until the day you depart. This visa will also allow you to explore and travel the country. It is nearly impossible to receive a visa for a paid internship. A work permit will be required and the conditions are very complex, and therefore difficult to fulfill.
